Many families are still grieving the loss, in many cases, of their only child. The Sichuan Earthquake Children's Reflection Project is this website that will be a remembrance of all the children lost in those school rooms on that fateful day in 2008. It will be a place where the children can be viewed by their parents and families and loved ones. This site will dedicate a page for each child and any photos available with descriptions of the child and lasting thoughts given to us by family members. It will also include a section of adults lost in those schools.
This site will also be a statement of remembrance to not allow this to happen in the future. The dual goal of the Sichuan Earthquake Children's Reflection Project is to give purpose to the lives lost that all schools around the world will be built to the highest standards and to make that a priority for our children.
My goal is to go to Sichuan China and ask each family if they would like to include their child here on this site and for those who want to participate, we will post their child's profile, photos and whatever information they would like to include on their child's page in english and chinese. Most people in that area are poor and in many cases only a photo or toy or clothes is all they have to remember their child.
During many news interviews and reports with the families in the media, there was a repeated theme from the mother and fathers and family members. Many stated that although they realized natural disasters are a part of life for all of us, they wanted their child's death to serve a purpose for other families and their surviving members of their existing family.
I have given this endeavor deep thought for a long time to decide if it was a correct and proper thing to do. After long deliberation over this challenging question, I have come to the conclusion that it's purpose is good and serves good moral judgement concerning the families involved.
It was also important to consider another factor which was any political or negative blame towards China. That is very important to me in my decision. In no way is this project pointing fingers at a country that has taken great strides over the last several decades. China and it's citizens have been through many changes over the last 20-60 years and they are becoming a successful modern country and the earthquake simply exposed a weakness that the government is addressing and I'm confident that those changes are a part of the rebuilding that is taking place as we speak.
I am seeking a sponsor(s) who will fund the trip for me to Sichuan China to complete this purposeful and meaningful project. My goal is to use my passport and obtain a 30-60 day visitor visa to spend everyday in the Sichuan area meeting with the families, using a laptop and camera to record the information and offer the families the ability for their child's passing to serve a purpose.
I have studied Chinese culture and it's history for years and I have a great fondness for it's people, it's struggles, and I personally enjoy the music, films, artisans and it's history and culture. I feel to do this project, a person must already feel deeply for China's culture and I am qualified for that reason because my heart is committed to the cause.
