The Spring Festival is an annual event in the Geisha world. Each year one Geisha is selected to put on a solo performance as the star of the event. In this video, Sayuri, (played by Ziyi Zhang) a young new Geisha has been selected instead of the popular older Hatsumomo (played by Gong Li). Her performance sparks a bidding war from the wealthy men who want to become her 'Danna'. That leads to a physical fight between the two Geisha which results in Gong Li setting the Okiya on fire and eventually being exiled.
