The day the teacher is scheduled to return ftom the city, Di stood out in the cold all day waiting for him from sunrise to sunset. It was freezing cold and snowing. (The image on the main page is her waiting all day in the snowing cold with the red scarf around her face.) At one point in the late afternoon, while she stands silenty in the snow by the forest edge, a carriage appears in the snowy distance and she slowly moves toward the road with relief only to see it was someone else just going by. It was a very sad moment. He never did arrive that day and around evening she barely makes it back to her house. She is freezing and has a very high temperature and upon entering the house she sits down next to her Grandmother and faints. She has become extreamley ill from standing in the cold snow storm for 12 hours. After she wakes, instead of staying in bed, she became obsessed with finding him and told her Grandmother she was going to walk all the way to the city in what has now become a massive snow blizzard. Her blind Grandmother tried to stop her but she went anyway. In this image you see her walking in the freezing weather alone and by herself already very sick towards the city which was many miles away. She didn't make it and eventually was found laying unconscience on the road. They put her on a cart and took her home. Many people surrounded her bed unknowing if she would survive.
