The look on Songlian's face is her detecting the maid's bad attitude towards her as a new arrival as a 4th Mistress. As the movie progresses, the issue the maid has is that she was hoping she would have been promoted to Mistress but was overlooked because of her peasant background. Understand that in old school China, 'peasant' was simply a term used to describe a working class citizen.
