Zhang Qing Calligraphy TAO
Zhang Qing Calligraphy ENLIGHTENMENT
TAO - the character of "tao" or "the way of nature" or "the way of the great integrity" (depending on which translation of Tao De Ching). Taoism is one of the earliest eastern philosophy after Buddhism and prior to Confucianism. LaoZi (the founder of Taoism) was the teacher of Confucius. Yet Confucius found Taoism to be too illusive and unstructured to be the governing philosophy of China therefore Confucius developed more of a disciplined approach in his philosophy. The Confucius family looks up to their great teacher LaoZi and a dedication in the name of the tao is a special remembrance of the source of knowledge. The mean focus of the character tao is the fact that it is being carried by a boat. As if one is in the flow of nature of the tao, everything becomes faster and more graceful. That is the true state of being and living in the integrity of life. This piece is signed with his family name (Kong - the family name of Confucius), created in the US during his tour in 2008. Top stamp is a cherry blossom and "to know spring" meaning each person's enlightenment lies within the innocence of each of our own spring time. The lower right stamp is the symbol of a dragon giving the calligraphy it's eastern origin. The smallest stamp on the upper left is the Confucius family stamp. The larger stamp on the bottom is his pen name and his artist stamp.
ENLIGHTENMENT - the character of enlightenment consists the characters of day and night. The true meaning of enlightenment is clarity - the ability to see beyond the delusional struggles of the everyday life but sensing the true beauty of a higher plane which is crystal clear and well defined as day and night. Zen Proverb says "Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water." So enlightenment doesn't mean one will suddenly float away into heaven but instead finding the heaven on earth that is always within. Zen Proverb Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water.
